On KQED Magazine

Organization: KQED, Northern California’s PBS and NPR affiliate

Project: On KQED Magazine

Role: Managing editor, writer, editor

As managing editor of the 32-page monthly KQED members’ magazine, I conducted a reader survey, created new types of content, wrote stories, and streamlined the production process.

In the story shown here, I interviewed Maestro Michael Tilson Thomas to give readers an inside look at his life. This was written to promote two PBS American Masters documentaries about him.

Excerpt: What are you listening to now — in any genre?
I don’t listen to music all that much. I’m feeling a lot of music. It’s in my life. I do have it on sometimes when I’m doing other things like cooking or reading or puttering around the house. I tend to listen to Gesualdo — 17th-century eccentric vocal music — Haydn keyboard music and the music of Mali. Every once in a while I listen to old jazz standards.
